Fees & billing

Transparent fee arrangements, agreed before work begins

How we approach fees

We believe legal costs should be clear and predictable. Before we begin any work, we discuss the fee arrangement that best fits your matter and set it out in writing — so there are no surprises.

Every matter is different, and the right structure depends on the complexity, scope, and stage of your legal issue. The arrangements below describe how we typically work with clients. Specific rates and quotes are confirmed directly with you, based on the details of your matter.

Fee arrangements

We offer several ways to structure fees. The right one depends on your matter.

Hourly billing

For matters where the scope of work is difficult to predict — such as complex workplace disputes, litigation support, or multi-party negotiations — we bill based on the time spent on your file. You receive regular accounts that itemize the work completed.

Our current hourly rates are set by area of practice and the lawyer assigned to your matter. Please contact us for the rate that applies to your situation.

Flat or capped fees

For well-defined projects — such as a workplace investigation, a single contract, or an incorporation — we can agree on a fixed fee or a fee cap in advance, so you know the maximum cost before work begins.

Flat-fee amounts are quoted per project after a brief review of your needs. Reach out for a quote.

Retainer arrangements

Organizations that need ongoing access to legal counsel can engage us on a monthly retainer. Retainer clients receive priority response times and a predictable monthly cost for day-to-day legal questions.

Retainer tiers and the services included in each are set out in an engagement letter. Contact us to discuss which tier fits your organization.

Initial consultation

We offer an initial consultation so you can understand your options before committing to a retainer. The consultation lets us assess your matter and recommend a fee structure that fits.

The fee for an initial consultation, and whether it is credited toward a retainer, is confirmed when you book. Please contact us to schedule.
